Saint-Alexis is a municipality in the Montcalm Regional County Municipality (MRC) of Quebec, Canada, located in the Lanaudière administrative region. The demonyms for the inhabitants of Saint-Alexis are "Alexinois" and "Alexinoise." Saint-Alexis is generally considered one of the four municipalities of New Acadia.
The name Saint-Alexis commemorates Canon Alexis-Frédéric Truteau (1808-1872). He was ordained in 1830 and served as chancellor to the Bishop of Montreal, Mgr Ignace Bourget, when the parish was canonically established in 1851. Canon Truteau became famous during the "Guibord Affair," when he refused Christian burial to Joseph Guibord (1809-1869) following a Roman decree obtained by the bishop condemning the Institut Canadien.
The post office is named "Saint-Alexis-de-Montcalm."
Apart from the Saint-Georges stream, which is a tributary of the L'Assomption River, the waterways in the municipality are part of the Saint-Esprit River watershed.
